In Junior Five pupils focus on improving core skills in comprehension, grammar, story writing and mathematics. The topics covered are Scottish Wars of Independence, Age of Exploration and The Rainforest. Pupils have specialist teachers for art, science, PE, swimming, french and music. ICT is used to enhance all areas of the curriculum. Pupils compare and contrast Christianity, Judaism and Islam in RME. Critical thinking skills, media studies and drama are also taught in Junior Five.
As part of their topic, ‘Scottish Wars of Independence’, J5 have been looking at the weaponry used in the 13th – 14th century. They had great fun creating their very own catapults. In order to make them as effective as possible, it was necessary to experiment with the angle of projection and the shape of missile. One pupil managed to fire their projectile 5 metres!
