Independent Nursery, Junior and Senior School, Edinburgh

Junior 6

Congratulations to Gabriel for his winning entry to the Green Pencil Award, a creative writing competition for P4 –P7 children in the Edinburgh district.  Over 1500 entries were received and only 20 finalists were chosen, so we are delighted he got through.

Porridge by Gabriel Lee

My dad’s porridge

On the table every morning

Slimy, smelly, disgusting

Like a year old glass of milk

Like crinkled up paper

It makes me feel sick

Like I have just been on a rollercoaster

My dad’s porridge

It reminds me why I have cereal!

In J6 we focus on consolidating and improving our skills in comprehension, grammar, writing and mathematics.  Pupils have specialist teachers for art, science, PE, swimming, modern languages (French, German and Spanish), drama and music.

Additionally, our projects this year include The Global Environment, Living & Growing and The Jacobites.  We end the year with a class residential trip to Culloden and Fort George.

This term we will be learning about how our bodies and feelings develop as we get older, in our Living and Growing topic.  This covers how and why our bodies change in puberty, and how feelings and emotions may develop during this time.  We will also be taking part in an excellent ‘Cycle of Life’ workshop at Edinburgh Zoo to complement our learning.

An information afternoon for parents and carers is scheduled for Monday, 11th January 2016 in the J6 classroom at 3.30pm to show the different resources that we will be using for this topic.
