Teacher of Modern Studies – Full-time, commencing 26th August 2024
THE SCHOOL
Clifton Hall School is a fully independent all-through day school and is a member of the Scottish Council for Independent Schools (SCIS), with a roll of 460, having two nursery years, seven ‘single class’ primary years and six ‘double form’ secondary years. Class sizes range from eighteen to twenty four. The school broadly follows the 3-18 Curriculum for Excellence guidelines and received an excellent HMI Standard Inspection Report in May 2007 and in a QUIPE inspection in 2017.

THE POST
Currently, there is one Modern Studies post available within the school in a five-teacher faculty of Social and Business Subject Teachers. The successful candidate will be directly responsible to the Faculty Leader of Social Subjects.
We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic, committed, appropriately qualified teachers who are registered or eligible for future registration with the GTC. Applications are particularly welcome from teachers who can offer a second subject in this area (particularly Politics).
Among the key qualities which we will seek is evidence of:
• expert, dynamic teaching at all levels up to and including Advanced Higher (or equivalent)
• the ability to work professionally in a team
• a willingness to learn through continuing professional development
• a commitment to the extra-curricular activities programme of the school
There may be areas of development and responsibility within the school for the successful candidate, depending on their areas of special interest and expertise.
All staff are encouraged to take part fully in the life of the school, leading after-school clubs and activities (which take place between 3.30 and 4.30), joining residential trips and day outings, as well as helping with tasks such as supervising of provision of snacks at breaktime.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Clifton Hall School Ltd.
REMUNERATION
The salary offered is in accordance with the national recommended pay scale plus a Clifton Hall enhancement of 2%.
There are substantially reduced school fees for children of staff if space is available and entry requirements are met.
HOLIDAYS
Teachers are entitled to normal school holidays. Currently the school operates for 177 full days and four in-service days per annum.
