Pupils leave as confident individuals who have a positive attitude to learning, are experienced in taking responsibility and are ready to contribute positively to society.
We follow the Scottish Curricular Guidelines, offering a broad range of subjects including English, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Sciences, Humanities, Drama, IT, Art, Music and PE. In Senior 5 and 6, additional options such as Administration, Geology, Media Studies and Philosophy are available. Pupils are prepared for SQA National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications across all areas.
The Music department offers extensive instrumental tuition, with individual lessons available and encouragement to sit external exams such as those of the Associated Board or Trinity College.
Our annual drama production is a calendar highlight, giving pupils a professional theatre experience and culminating in public performances to large audiences.
In Art and Design, pupils explore a wide range of media and can extend their skills through clubs, working on class-linked projects or specialist activities such as quilt making and Stop Motion Animation.
Regular participation in sporting events and competitions is also an integral part of the curriculum. From Junior 4 upwards, pupils are encouraged to participate, competitively, in a variety of disciplines such as rugby, hockey, tennis, badminton and swimming.
The wider curriculum plays an important role in the experience of our pupils. Educational visits are an integral part of the teaching programme and the curriculum is enhanced by the provision of a range of activities both in and out of school.
Every pupil is given the opportunity to take part in a trip abroad. Additionally, there is a supportive system of pastoral care, with pupils likely to retain the same Form teacher throughout their time in Senior School.
